Waheeda Rehman, who's sophistication remains unparalled till date and who is considered to be one of the most beautiful women that Indian cinema has witnessed didn't really consider herself beautiful when young. The legend talks about the doubts that she had about herself.
In a an interview she said, "I never considered myself beautiful in my younger years. I only considered myself to be photogenic. I looked beautiful mainly because of the good lighting and the make up. I never considred myself beautiful."
The Enlighten Film Society recently bestowed the 'Taj Enlighten Tareef Award' to veteran actress Waheeda Rehman for her outstanding contribution to cinema. According to sources, Waheeda Rehman is considered to be just as big a personality in Bollywood as Amitabh Bachchan himself, who incidently claims Waheeda Rehman to be his favourite actress.
Originally discovered by noted Bollywood actor and film-maker, Guru Dutt, who cast her in the lead role in 'C.I.D'. She went on to appear in 'Pyaasa', 'Kagaz Ke Phool', 'Sahib Biwi AurGhulam', 'Chaudvi Ka Chand', 'Bees Saal Baad' and many other movies at the time.
Waheeda Rehman was known for her classic combination of Islamic beauty and extraordinary grace, talent and an appeal that ranked her among the pantheon of Bollywood's elite actresses. Where dancing was concerned, there were very few other at the time who could dance better than her.
Over the years veteran actress Waheeda Rehman has achieved what very few actresses of her time could. With her acting prowess, Waheda Rehman went on to win a plethora of awards. She won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her roles in Guide (1965) and Neel Kamal (1968). In later years, the actress also the National Award for Best actress (1971) and in more recent years she won the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award (1994).
