Refrigerators don’t stand out like sore thumbs anymore, they just stand out. They are classing up kitchens these days, matching and complementing kitchen motifs and providing state-of-the-art features. Well, why not? Who wouldn’t want a refrigerator that reflects their personality?
A lot is expected of refrigerators these days. It is no longer enough that they keep things cool and fresh. They need to be energy efficient and have wide-ranging functionality. Moreover, they need to look cool and have an attitude!
There are refrigerators with see-through glass doors, digital-control displays, door alarms, slide-out storage, voice recorders, coffee makers, steam ovens, TVs, temperature monitors, etc.
The color schemes available are amazing too. But if you are still not satisfied, you can always go for the fingerprint resistant stainless steel, titanium or iridium finishes.
The built-in look
Integrating the fridge with the kitchen cabinets and other appliances is a trend that is fast catching on. It gives you that stylish built-in look. Some fridges come with attachable door faces that match kitchen cabinets and there are those that come in custom-made wood cabinets.
Technology and the entertainment factor
Computerized digital controls are a feature of many new models. Samsung recently introduced a fridge with a 10-inch LCD touch screen with digital memo pad. You can now set expiration dates to remind you when food is too old or ripe.
LG has gone a bit further with a fridge that has a 15-inch screen that is DVD compatible on one door. On the other you have a screen that shows local weather information and doubles as a recipe book and digital photo album.
Electrolux has introduced LCD screen fridges with decorative designs on the outside. These concept models are equipped with a computer and a touch screen on the door.
If you want a fridge with see-through glass doors, try the Northland 60SS. You can now check out the contents without opening the door. You probably would want to keep things very tidy in there though.
