At risk of a burnout? Tired of living your mundane life? Need a holiday to recharge yourself ? Well, look no further than Gangotri!

Nestled in the magnificent Garhwal hills at an altitude of 3048 meters above sea level, Gangotri, one of the Chardhams (which are the four pilgrimage destinations a Hindu must undertake at least once in his lifetime), is a must-visit place. Why? Gangotri, a peaceful haven, guarantees to give you an unforgettable opportunity to unravel your spiritual self and satiate your desire for adventure! A trip to Gangotri will surely leave you spellbound with its holy aura and the adventure of a lifetime. Now isn’t that a great combination?

Adventure-packed holiday
If you are looking for a pilgrimage in the foothills of the Himalayas and an adventure filled holiday, Gangotri will not be a disappointment. Blessed with scenic beauty, serenity, peace, rich cultural heritage and a host of activities for the adventurous, you can never run out of things to do at Gangotri.

Sites you must visit

Don’t miss the shrine of Gangotri, which is believed to be around three centuries old. However, it is open only between the months of May and November. Jalamagna Shivling (submerged Shivling) visible mostly during early winters when the water level is low is a must-see, too. For a trekking experience of a lifetime check out the most popular trekking haunts such as Gaumukh, the source of the holy Ganga, Tapovan, Nandavan, and Bhaironghati. Tapovan can be reached by a 4 km trek through the Gaumukh glacier. Bhaironghati, on the other hand, is situated 10 km downstream from Gangotri. Rafters and wildlife enthusiasts can have their share of enthralling experiences here as well.

You can get to Gangotri by air, rail or road. The closest airport is Jolly Grant, Dehradun, which is 226 km from Gangotri. The nearest railway station is Rishikesh, 249 km from Gangotri. Gangotri is well connected by road and there are a number of daily buses plying from Rishikesh, Hardwar and Dehradun to Gangotri. You could also reach Gangotri by hiring cabs from Rishikesh.

You might not find many plush accommodations at Gangotri, but you will certainly feel at home at the Government tourist guesthouses, Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam, forest guesthouses, small lodges, and ashrams.
